We are looking to recruit enthusiastic Medical Laboratory Assistants to work part-time casual hours in our fast-paced medical laboratories in South Essex. Pathology First is a partnership between SYNLAB and Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, supporting Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals, Southend Hospital, and more than 200 GP practices. It provides services to a population of 750,000 in the East of England and performs around 56,000 laboratory tests every day.
We operate in state-of-the-art laboratories, equipment, and fully integrated IT systems. We have optimized laboratory layouts and improved processes so they are more efficient, enabling us to make the best use of people, time, and resources. This role will be based in Basildon (Hub).
This essential role ensures our patients’ biological samples are efficiently and safely handled following due health and safety protocols and accurately registered in our in-house laboratory IT system (WinPath enterprise). This enables tests to be processed and results issued in appropriate timeframes. The role also involves communicating with our patients, hospital staff, and other departments, as well as other administrative duties.
We are looking for candidates who have a passion for patient care, ideally with a background in a healthcare setting, who are able to work in a fast-paced environment, have manual dexterity, and can accurately enter patient information into the Laboratory Information System. The successful candidate will work in a team as well as be required to work independently at times.
The candidate will be required to participate in offering casual hours (Zero hours contract) Monday to Friday between the hours of 12 PM-7 PM.
The successful candidate will receive fully comprehensive training and will be required to be competent in various sections of specimen reception.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* 4 GCSEs at Grade A-C or equivalent, including Math and English
* High standard of typing proficiency
* High standard of accuracy and attention to detail
* Previous data entry experience
* Customer service-focused experience
At SYNLAB, we believe in nurturing a culture of well-being and ensuring our employees are supported both professionally and personally. This position is ideal for someone who would like to work within the healthcare setting as part of the team and enjoys making a difference to our patients.
