Global Technical Director Network Rail Consulting (NRC) is the international consultancy arm of Network Rail, the owner of Britain’s railway. About the opportunity: The successful candidate will be required to lead the development of Network Rail Consulting’s (NRC) rail engineering capability for the achievement of world class engineering and asset management consultancy services drawing on the expertise of Network Rail (NR). You will lead interactions on strategic engineering and asset management issues with Network Rail, NRC’s international railway clients and NRC’s engineering discipline leaders in order to share best practice, benchmark NR with other international railway companies; and identify opportunities for NRC utilise NR’s engineering skills and Intellectual property. You will act as the company expert and provider of professional engineering and asset management advice to the company as a whole and NRC’s international clients. Accountabilities: Develop NRC’s railway engineering capability in order to successfully execute international rail consultancy assignments covering the full range of NRC’s service offering. Lead the relationship with NR with respect to staff resource planning for NRC opportunities and projects to enable the appropriate qualified resources to be deployed including the identification of individuals within NR for temporary/finite consulting assignments in specialty areas. Organise and lead technical resources across the principal engineering disciplines to provide the necessary consultancy skills and resources to deliver NRC’s services in international markets, drawing from employees in NRC, Network Rail and external partners. Assure that the technical leads (wherever they may be located) in each relevant discipline keep up to date with industry best practice and relevant technical training within the business. Represent and promote NRC's interests, in particular with respect to infrastructure management, on national and international associations - including presenting technical papers. Direct benchmarking and learning for systems and data from incidents, new technologies, processes and practices both from within the NR business and from NRC's clients. Lead the process of embedding learning through sponsorship of business change and lateral learning events. Support the creation and development of technical proposals in the countries where NRC operates, particularly in evaluating RFP scopes, evaluating NRC's ability to bring experience as well as innovation, preparing and writing technical sections for proposals, and demonstrating best practices. Provide technical quality assurance oversight to existing projects and to our technical deliverables. Act as Project Director on consultancy projects at both the bid and project execution phases. Undertake temporary overseas assignments as required. Experience & Qualifications: Essential: Chartered Engineer. Recognised leadership capability of engineering activities within the railway industry. Extensive experience in the management of engineering processes, assets and components. Knowledge of Network Rails; policies, standards and processes, in particular those relating to Engineering and Asset Management. Strong written and verbal communication skills.Comprehensive knowledge of relevant asset systems, engineering standards and process integrity.Substantial experience in leading virtual multi-discipline teams, ideally in a matrix environment. Sound understanding of asset management strategies. Strong commercial awareness and financially astute. Experience of negotiating at a very senior level and balancing the views of a range of stakeholders. Desirable Fellow of an appropriate institution. Experience of developing technical strategy.
