The post holder will provide a high quality specialist clinical psychology service to clients as part of the multidisciplinary team within the service. They will provide psychological assessments and interventions in keeping with evidence-based practice, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Trust's policies and procedures.
The post holder will be involved with service development, research, and audit in line with service priorities. They will supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other psychologists and clinical team members. Collaboration with professionals, carers, and service users will be essential, offering advice, consultation, and supervision as appropriate.
Developing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with clients, including in group settings, is a key responsibility. This will involve joint working on complex cases requiring specialized assessment and therapeutic skills.
The post holder is expected to provide autonomous, highly specialist assessments of clients referred to the service, utilizing psychological data from various sources, including tests, self-report measures, rating scales, and structured interviews. They will communicate with clients with a wide range of difficulties, planning and organizing complex activities.
Formulating and implementing plans for the psychological treatment and management of clients' mental health problems is essential, employing methods of proven efficiency across various care settings. The post holder will make decisions and clinical judgments involving complex factors, often in the context of inadequate information or differing expert opinions.
They will exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment, and discharge of clients managed by psychologically based care plans. Acting as care coordinator where appropriate, the post holder will ensure the provision of a care package tailored to clients' needs, coordinating the work of others involved in care, arranging reviews, and communicating effectively with clients, families, and other professionals.
The post holder will possess the skills to communicate sensitive and complex information regarding personal psycho-social problems in an empathic and supportive manner, utilizing high levels of interpersonal skills in emotionally charged situations. They will have responsibility for the treatment and discharge of clients managed under psychologically based care plans, ensuring appropriate assessment, formulation, and interventions while maintaining regular communication with referral agents and others involved in care.
Lastly, the post holder will undertake risk assessments to inform and advise professionals and carers regarding mental health concerns or risk-taking behavior.
