An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Haematology and stem cell transplant team at Sheffield Children's Hospital. This is a new substantive 10 PA post to further develop a well-established team. There are close links with the University of Sheffield and the Research and Innovation team.
Applicants should possess or be within 6 months of receiving CCT in Haematology. Overseas applicants will need to demonstrate equivalent training.
Main duties of the job
You will provide senior leadership and supervise the diagnostic process and treatment of children and young people up to the age of 16 with leukaemia and those undergoing stem cell transplant. There are additional laboratory reporting and liaison haematology responsibilities as well as out of hours cover for non-malignant Haematology and Oncology.
You will work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team in our dedicated haematology and oncology outpatient clinic and co-located inpatient ward, both of which have been extensively refurbished within the last few years. You will contribute to the consultant of the week rota (1:3) as well as outpatient clinics for both on and off treatment patients.
On-call responsibilities include cover for patients with cancer, malignant haematology, bone marrow transplantation and some non-malignant haematology (predominantly sickle cell disease) on a 1:8 basis. There is a second on call rota (1:6) covering most of the non-malignant haematology including coagulation.

Person Specification
Qualifications / Training
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
* On the GMC's Specialist Register OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview
* Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in haematology, or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
Knowledge / Experience
* A minimum of 18 months specialist training and experience in paediatric haematology including leukaemia & HSCT
* Experience of emergency management of paediatric patients with solid tumours
Previous Training Management / Audit
* Basic experience in management eg trainee rotas
* Understanding of NHS management responsibilities of consultants
* Preparation of audit
Academic Achievements/Research/Publications
* Has experience in research and management of children in clinical trials
* Shown evidence of interest in relevant specialist research
Skills
* Able to work under own initiative and motivate/lead others
* Able to communicate well with children, parents and staff
