For internal candidates, a secondment opportunity may be considered. Please make sure you discuss this with your direct line manager before submitting your application form.
You will be joining a friendly, positive, motivated and forward-thinking team. This role requires working Monday to Friday (07:30-15:30) excluding bank holidays.
The Chronic Pain Service at Maidstone Hospital is a self-contained specialist unit comprising of a day ward, pain theatre and outpatient clinic. We treat and support patients who have experienced pain for three months or more. We help patients with a broad range of chronic pain problems, especially spinal pain, to improve their pain control and quality of life. We use a holistic approach to pain control, as one method does not work for all. We liaise with all services including GPs, inpatient pain services, theatres, physiotherapy, radiography and hospices. We also have a close working relationship with our local NHS community Trust who provide a community pain management service.
Main duties of the job
You will be joining the team as a staff nurse welcoming and admitting patients to the pain day-case unit. Your main responsibilities will be preparing patients for an interventional pain procedure and caring for them after the procedure. You will be undertaking pre-assessment of the patients prior to the planned intervention and booking them onto the computer system. There are opportunities within the role to provide health education to patients and to help them identify strategies to manage chronic pain.
Continuing professional development is encouraged and offered to enable you to develop your skills and knowledge in the field of pain management.
To fulfil this role, you will be a great team player and possess excellent communication skills.
