Job Title: Quantity Surveyor\nLocation: Thames Valley / Thames Water Office - Reading\nSalary: Up to £50,000 per annum\nStart Date: 14/07/2024\nClosing Date: 25/04/2025\n\nJob Overview:\nWe are seeking a skilled and experienced Quantity Surveyor to provide commercial support to our project teams. In this role, you will maintain commercial information, ensure compliance with contractual requirements, and support the achievement of the company's objectives. You will liaise with client representatives and third parties on various commercial matters, including variations, claims, and additional payments.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nReporting: Ensure accurate and timely cost and value reporting at both the project and business unit level.
Oversee cash flow reporting and carry out cost management, including forecasting. Update monthly CVR, cost, and commercial plans.\n\nProcesses: Support the adherence to internal commercial processes across the business unit. Continuously look for opportunities to improve processes and procedures.
Assist in the development and improvement of processes within joint ventures or alliances.\n\nExternal Relationships: Ensure contracts entered into have terms and conditions that are aligned with company interests, identifying commercial risks. Ensure appropriate engagement of the supply chain with correct contract terms and conditions. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and third parties.
Oversee subcontract letting, negotiation, and financial accounting. Prepare applications for payment and address commercial issues, including variations and claims.\n\nInternal Relationships: Foster effective interaction between the Commercial Team and operational site teams. Work with site management to forecast predicted spend and cash recovery.
Share best practices and proactively advise site teams on cost management.\n\nKey Measures & Targets:\n\nEnsure accurate monthly forecasting.\nMaintain tight control over resources and costs.\nAdhere to monthly commercial calendar deadlines.\n\nKey Relationships:\nCommercial Manager/Managing Quantity Surveyor and the Commercial Team\nBusiness Development and Bid Managers\nSite Teams\nClients\n\nPerson Specification:\n\nEssential:\nPrevious experience in the construction industry.\nHND/degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying.\nFamiliarity with ICE/NEC forms of contract and an understanding of Construction Law.\nProven experience in commercial management and subcontractor procurement, including measurement and control.\nStrong knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis.\nExperience in estimation and cost analysis.\nExcellent communication, numerical, and computer literacy skills.\nProficiency in Microsoft Office.\nExcellent organisational and time-management skills, able to work to tight deadlines.\nAbility to work effectively in a team and independently.\n\nDesirable:\nMembership with RICS or other relevant professional body, or working towards it.\nCSCS card.\n\nBenefits:\n\n5% Company pension contribution\nLife Assurance at 2x notional salary\nSingle person’s private medical cover\nPermanent Health Cover\nCompany Profit Share Scheme\nCompany car / or car allowance (dependent on position)\nCareer development and ongoing training\nStaff Referral Scheme\n25 days annual leave, with additional loyalty days\nVolunteering Scheme\nEnvironmental and Social Value initiatives\n\nAbout Us:\nWe are one of the UK’s largest privately-owned civil engineering and infrastructure specialists, with 40 years of experience across various sectors including water, transport, built environment, and energy.
