Safety Manager's Role Summary
Reporting directly to the Accountable Managers, responsible for the development, implementation and management of an integrated Safety Management System to ensure regulatory compliance and promote industry best practice within the AOC, Part CAMO and Part 145 Organisations.
Safety Manager's Responsibilities
1. Facilitate hazard identification, risk analysis and management.
2. Monitor the implementation of actions taken to mitigate risks, as listed in the safety action plan and provide periodic reports on safety performance to the safety review board.
3. Ensure maintenance of safety management documentation and ensure that there is safety management training available and that it meets acceptable standards.
4. Provide advice on safety matters and ensure initiation and follow-up of all internal occurrence/accident investigations.
5. Manage and supervise the FDM program.
6. Identify and assess issues identified through the FDM program and transmit to the manager(s) responsible for the process(es) concerned.
7. Implement and manage a hazard identification, reporting and investigation process, including associated risk management activities.
8. Ensure information collected under the requirements of this manual is not used for purposes other than safety.
9. Monitor and report to the Accountable Managers on the effectiveness of the System through development and measurement of Safety Objectives and Performance Indicators that support the Company Safety Policy and monitoring the implementation of actions taken to mitigate risks and compliance deficiencies.
10. Report to the Accountable Managers and Nominated Persons on the status of the risks identified within the SMS.
11. Intervene as a representative of the Company in terms of Operational Safety in all circumstances as required and coordinate and/or supervise the investigation of accidents and serious incidents.
12. Establish communication and liaison with the Safety Organisations of third parties and the authorities when required.
13. Maintain the Safety Management Manual (SMM) of the company and documentation related to Operational Safety.
14. Ensure that Mandatory Occurrence Reports (MORs) are communicated to the relevant authorities and third parties.
15. Advise Nominated Persons and the Accountable Managers on matters related to Operational Safety.
16. Organise and supervise Safety Action Groups (SAG’s) as required.
17. Perform the functions defined in the Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
18. Organise and act as secretary at all SRB meetings.
Safety Manager's Requirements
1. Knowledge of ICAO standards as well as UK and European regulations and provisions on Safety Management.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of relevant parts of aircraft operational requirements, procedures, Safety investigation techniques and Human factors in aviation.
3. 5 years of relevant work experience, of which at least 2 years should be from the aeronautical industry in an appropriate position.
4. ICAO standards and European requirements and provisions on safety management.
5. Basic safety investigation techniques and Human factors principles.
6. Relevant and documented work experience, preferably in a comparable position and Management Systems including compliance monitoring systems and Safety Management.
