On a retained and exclusive basis, Hays Engineering is delighted to be partnering with Lenzing in Grimsby to appoint their Automation Engineer. The new appointment will join an established team of automation specialists and be an integral part of the function, accountable for ensuring a sufficient service level to maintain and develop the factory operational technology (OT) systems and infrastructure.
As the newly appointed Automation Engineer, you will take accountability for automation systems and the associated infrastructure, resulting in a safe, reliable plant and helping achieve and exceed production and quality targets, in addition to knowledge of existing and new systems and being an in-house expert on software.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Provides primary support for the Operational / Automation systems (PLC/SCADA/Networks/SQL etc.) to others within the business, inclusive of any out of hours support.
2. Aids with the ongoing development of the Automation strategy to tackle reliability, obsolescence, ageing plant and improvements.
3. Through the use of asset reliability data / OEE losses, we ensure proper RCA / investigations are performed.
4. Identify and organise asset improvement projects providing justifications for savings with inclusion of capex vouchers.
5. Assist the Improvement team (Projects / Process / Engineering) on the continuous improvements to the factory.
6. Development and implementation of control systems for new plant equipment.
7. Liaises with the Automation Teams at other sites within the Lenzing group.
8. Identifies and establishes a level of confidence in the equipment and services of relevant automation vendors.
9. Responsible for ensuring compliance with all safety, health and environmental procedures in the area of responsibility.
Our expectations for this exciting role:
1. The successful applicant will have completed an Electrical apprenticeship, coupled with a wealth of practical experience post completion.
2. A degree level qualification in electrical, control and automation engineering would be a distinct advantage to your application also.
3. You'll ideally have exposure to manufacturing environments. Heavy industry and chemical processes would also be advantageous too.
4. Proven experience of working within a team is essential, and as the newly appointed Automation Engineer, you will drive the ‘Lenzing One Team‘ initiative, aiding the ability to solve engineering / process problems.
5. Working to timescales is critical, in addition to an adaptable and flexible approach.
6. Seamless communication is imperative, inclusive of technical and non-technical stakeholders, to ensure collective outcomes are achieved.
7. Good working knowledge of PLC / SCADA Systems, relational databases, industrial networks and high-level programming languages, is critical. Coupled with the understanding of Control System theories and control design.
8. You'll be a proactive problem-solver with a keen desire to keep abreast of advances in technology.
9. A proactive self-starter, able to manage your own performance.
10. You'll have proven experience driving collaboration to achieve collective-site wide goals.
11. You'll have a strong engineering mind-set, with the ability to collect, analyse and act on information.
12. Continuous improvement focused, particularly in relation to automation systems and associated infrastructure.
13. A positive can-do attitude and being able to influence other members of the team and wider business.
14. Safely conscious, able to lead and develop a team to implement and maintain the best engineering practices.
15. Able to achieve business and team goals through KPI management.
16. The correct right to work in the UK without expiry is essential, sponsorship is not available for this role.
