Job Overview:
The Legal Cashier will be responsible for managing all aspects of the firm’s financial transactions in accordance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules. This role requires a strong understanding of legal accounting and the ability to work accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Processing client and office account transactions, including receipts, payments, and transfers.
2. Ensuring compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules and other relevant regulations.
3. Handling daily banking duties, including reconciliations of bank accounts.
4. Managing the firm’s purchase ledger, ensuring all invoices are correctly recorded and paid on time.
5. Preparing and posting journal entries, and maintaining accurate financial records.
6. Assisting in the preparation of month-end and year-end financial reports.
7. Liaising with fee earners and support staff to resolve account queries.
8. Monitoring client account balances and ensuring timely transfers to office accounts.
9. Assisting with audits and ensuring all financial practices adhere to statutory requirements.
10. Providing support and cover for other members of the finance team as needed.
Requirements:
1. Previous experience as a Legal Cashier within a law firm is essential.
2. Solid understanding of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules.
3. Strong knowledge of legal accounting software.
4. Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
5. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines.
6. Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
8. A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
