About The Role
Location: Aldershot
Days & Hours: Various shifts available, can be worked by more than 1 person. Shifts may include: Saturday and Sunday 7am to 2pm, Saturday 7am to Sunday 2pm, sleeping night shifts on a Friday (11pm to 7am), in accordance with the rota issued in advance. Additional hours available to cover leave and/or sickness.
Pay: £13.81 per hour, Weekdays and £15.43 per hour, Weekends and Bank Holidays. Sleeping nights, Monday - Sunday, National Living Wage (currently £11.44 for aged 21+).
Driver: Essential
Driving Clients Car? Yes, our client's Adapted Vehicle (WAV), automatic although some shifts do not require a car driver.
Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, on duty and to attend trainings.
Essential: Supporting adults with stroke and aphasia.
Desirable: Experience working with adults with trauma and an interest in therapy.
Interviews Week Commencing: As applications are received. These may be held using video calling.
Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory employment checks).
Client Description: Brenda is in her 80’s and enjoys getting out and about and socialising. She has one son locally and a daughter up North, who she sees regularly. Despite sustaining a stroke, Brenda enjoys being socially active and attending concerts and the cinema. She has a passion for country music and cruises which she attends with her support staff and a group of friends she meets for Saturday breakfast.
Brenda requires assistance with many aspects of her personal care, supervision of transfers, and she requires all meals cooked. She has aphasia which causes her difficulty in communicating but she fully understands what is said to her and engages well in conversation with a sense of humour. She uses a wheeled Zimmer frame to mobilise indoors and a powered wheelchair for outdoor use. Brenda can feed herself.
You will be joining a small care team where you will be taking direction from the Case Manager, Team Leader, and therapists to ensure that Brenda receives all the care she needs.
This job will suit someone who is calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role. The successful applicants will need to have an interest in therapy to implement strategies and follow therapy programmes devised by the therapists to assist Brenda in maintaining her independence. A truly rewarding role for someone who can communicate confidently and can work with patience, understanding, warmth, and compassion.

Main Skills and Behaviours:
You should have experience of working with someone who has suffered a stroke and aphasia, be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push, or pull.
Naturally, you will be confident and comfortable working in Brenda’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of her and her family. By nature, you should be friendly, approachable, and have an encouraging approach.
Great organisational skills, being punctual, patient, and reliable are all qualities Brenda will rely on, so this is key in supporting her.
