As part of our continuedgrowth, we are looking for a SEN Teacher to join our team at OakhamShires School.
About therole
The successful candidate willhave experience of closing the gaps for disadvantaged and SENDpupils would be beneficial as you would be supporting autisticteenagers that have struggled throughout their school journey toachieve their academic and life goals.
Our classgroups are small allowing you to focus on each pupil’s needs; allof our pupils are treated as an individual; one size does not fitall and we recognise that in our approach to learning by adaptingour teaching to meet individual needs. We are looking forstaff with a knowledge and understanding of autism anddevelopmental trauma, who can apply that knowledge in all of theirdealings and interactions with the young people we support. Weuse an “in their own time and space” philosophy to support ourpupils to navigate their lives. We focus on understandingbehaviour for communication and use this to help support theirsocial and emotional development. We have a strongsafeguarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected andinvolved in as many decisions as possible.
Weneed teachers who have a passion for working with pupils, have acompassionate, caring manner and a mature, non-judgemental approachto life. You will be a clear communicator andresilient.
At Oakham Shires, we have amaximum of 5 pupils per class with adult support therefore reducingpaperwork and we allocate 7¿ hours per week of non-contact time fortraining, PPA, meetings, etc. Staff enjoy a cooked lunch withpupils each day and time is set aside to focus on staffwellbeing.

About theschool
Oakham Shires School is anIndependent Special School for 11-18 year olds who are Autistic andhave associated diagnosis and special education needs. Theschool delivers a specialist curriculum for pupils who havestruggled to cope in a mainstream or larger SEN educational settingand are, as a result, working below age expected stage. Pupilsare taught in small class groups of 4 -5 with a high staff to pupilratio. Pupils are supported to achieve their Outcomes withintheir Education Health Care Plan, develop life skills and achieveaccreditations in Maths, English and Science.
For over 16 years Options Autism have provided care andeducation to pupils, young people and adults with autism, complexneeds and learning difficulties.
