Job Title: Quantity Surveyor
Location: Birmingham
Contract Type: Initial 6-Month Contract (with potential for permanent placement)
About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our client’s dynamic and well-respected consultancy, based in Birmingham. This role is perfect for a professional with expertise in both residential and commercial construction projects. You will play a critical part in delivering high-quality cost management and advisory services while ensuring value for money, compliance, and exceptional outcomes for clients. This is an initial 6-month contract, with a strong possibility of transitioning into a permanent position based on performance and business requirements.
Key responsibilities:
1. Conduct cost planning, estimation, and feasibility studies for residential and commercial projects
2. Manage procurement processes, including preparing tender documents, assessing bids, and making recommendations
3. Monitor project budgets, identifying and addressing variances
4. Provide accurate and detailed valuations, cash flow forecasts, and financial reports
5. Negotiate contracts and manage contractual claims or disputes
6. Collaborate closely with design, project, and construction teams to ensure seamless delivery
7. Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress and assess compliance with budgets and standards
8. Prepare final accounts and complete project cost reconciliations
Key skills and experience:
1. Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in residential and commercial builds
2. Strong understanding of construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC)
3. Excellent budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting skills
4. Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously
5. Strong negotiation and communication skills, with a focus on delivering value
6. Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., CostX, CATO, or similar)
7. Professional qualifications such as RICS (or working towards chartership) are desirable but not essential
