Working Days: 3 days per week

Job Purpose:
To work face to face in a supportive role alongside Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) in various educational settings with a range of communication difficulties. You will deliver group and/or one-to-one therapy, complete observations and screening assessments, liaise with educational staff and other professionals, and work closely with the lead SLT in planning and delivering SALT input. This includes training and supporting other professionals to deliver programs and implement universal strategies and targeted input. Your role will also involve the preparation and maintenance of therapy/training materials and equipment for the service and service users, as well as promoting the importance of Speech, Language, and Communication skills in the local community.
Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical:
• Carry out therapy programmes devised by Speech and Language therapists with individual children or in small groups, reporting session outcomes to the lead or supervising therapist.
• Recognise children with communication difficulties and deliver treatment plans, supported by a Speech and Language Therapist.
• Conduct School/Nursery and occasionally home visits as identified by a Speech and Language Therapist.
• Undergo initial in-service training and continue to receive appropriate training.
• Keep Speech and Language Therapists informed of a child’s progress.
• Respect the confidentiality of all information accessed.
• Maintain departmental quality standards and be aware of clinical pathways and guidelines.
• Support the Speech and Language Therapy team flexibly.
• Represent the service at meetings under the guidance of a Speech and Language Therapist.
• Provide advice on optimising the client’s communicative environment considering the communication skills of parents/guardians and other professionals.
• Assist in devising and implementing non-verbal communication systems.
• Highlight to the supervising therapist any necessary onward specialist referrals.
• Provide administrative support in preparing, photocopying, and maintaining therapy materials/equipment.
Communication:
• Exhibit strong verbal/written communication skills.
• Communicate treatment information effectively to clients, carers, and other professionals.
• Provide verbal advice to parents/guardians and other professionals regarding the management and care of children.
• Ensure clients/parents/teaching staff are involved in treatment plan delivery.
• Maintain accurate case notes in line with service policies.
• Share information while observing current data protection guidelines.
Teaching Skills:
• Deliver pre-written training related to Speech, Language, and Communication.
• Reflect on and evaluate training provided with guidance from a lead Speech and Language Therapist.
• Support and advise others in delivering treatment programmes.
Clinical Governance Requirements:
• Gather and submit statistical data punctually.
• Maintain a working knowledge of relevant procedures including safeguarding children.
• Engage in Continuing Professional Development.
• Participate in individual performance reviews reflecting service and personal development needs.
• Attend relevant in-service training and meetings.
Business Development:
• Promote and raise awareness of Chatterbug and its services locally.
• Identify opportunities for business growth and development.
Analytical and Judgemental Skills:
• Reflect on practice with peers and mentors to identify strengths and development needs.
• Prevent breakdown of relationships with clients and professionals.
• Gather service user feedback and participate in service analysis.
Responsibility for Client Care:
• Support people with communication difficulties and their parents/carers.
• Work closely with clients, carers, and professionals to negotiate client management.
• Demonstrate empathy and effective communication.
Responsibility for Equipment or Financial Resources:
• Ensure the security, care, maintenance, and delivery of equipment.
• Monitor stock/equipment levels and request new equipment as needed.
