Job Summary: The head coach is a part-time role within the coaching team of Army Hockey. They are responsible for planning and delivery of training sessions to enhance technique, gameplay, tactics, and cohesion. In addition, they are to select, coach, and develop the individual players and overall squad to maximize the team potential. On matchday, they are to strategize, direct, and support the squad during match play and subsequently analyze technical data and video footage to assess and improve performance.
Minimum Commitment: 2 full seasons (i.e. until the latter of England Hockey Cup or Inter-Services 2027). Full season schedule available on request.
Renumeration Package: A daily rate plus reasonable expenses. The exact rate to be discussed depending on experience and suitability.
Essential Skills and Duties:
1. A fully qualified hockey coach with previous coaching experience. Desirable: coaching or playing senior men’s hockey at regional premiership or above OR a high-performance junior team.
2. Current in the governing body rules, regulations, and procedures throughout all competitions.
3. Assesses players' skills and assigns team positions and determines strategy based on the team capabilities.
4. Develops a suitable training plan in accordance with the Army Hockey schedule set by the Senior Team Manager.
5. Confers with the management on selection and performance of players.
6. Works with the Senior Team Manager in scheduling facilities and competition preparation.
7. Models sportsperson behaviour and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators in accordance with the Army’s Values and Standards.
8. Assists, where possible, in the development and coaching of junior Army teams (i.e. U25’s) to identify new talent.
9. Works to improve the overall standard of hockey delivery and professionalism within Army Hockey.
10. Participates in club activities including team socials, awards events, and any further invites from the Army Hockey Executive Committee.
11. Flexibility to work irregular hours and travel to training events and competitions. Training camps often occur at Aldershot Hockey Centre but occasionally occur overseas with further planning and coordination from the Senior Team Manager.
