Customs Coordinator (Tier 2)
Reports to: Customs Manager
Job function/Scope:
To effectively assist the client in all aspects of customs compliance administrative duties in accordance with HMRC requirements. Providing specialist knowledge and advice to a variety of clients. Support is provided both in house and remotely via the Customs Hub.
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Responsible for issuing customs clearance instructions to approved agents for both import and export movements.
2. Ensure goods are classified correctly by consulting the UK Trade Tariff.
3. Ensure a copy of all documentation relative to imports and exports is provided by the approved agents and maintain a robust audit trail of goods.
4. Complete management checks on all import and export declarations to ensure accuracy.
5. Reconcile the data received from HMRC monthly to ensure customs declarations are received and filed for audit purposes as required.
6. Strong knowledge of customs legislation and ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organisation.
7. Assist clients with customs related communication to both internal and external stakeholders.
8. Assist with completion of HMRC Customs authorisation applications in respect of both new applications and renewals.
9. Assist with the management and administration of customs declarations and associated formalities for the movement of goods to and from offshore locations.
10. Any other business associated with this position.
11. Follow the principles of the integrated safety management within LS Customs and any Peterson company or affiliate.
Performance Measure
1. Performance against client set KPIs.
2. Control of jobs as per client instructions, ensuring that everything is accurately completed on time.
3. Accuracy of information given to client.
4. Comply with all of LS Customs Management's and client processes, and HMRC regulations.
5. Client and inter-departmental feedback.
Qualifications and Experience
1. Desirable: Minimum 3 years' proven practical experience in customs matters, international logistics, offshore logistics or other areas of trade compliance.
2. Knowledge of HMRC systems and customs declarations.
3. Competent in Microsoft Office packages.
4. Be able to demonstrate commercial awareness.
5. Knowledge of current UK customs rules.
