Job Description We are currently seeking Mechanical Engineers to join our Decommissioning & Waste Services (DWS) market within our Nuclear & Power business. This role is ideally based in Northwest England (near Whitehaven preferably) although other locations UK wide will be considered as we already have a team geographically spread (e.g., Warrington, Manchester, Glasgow). You will join our Mechanical Engineering team who sit within a multidisciplinary engineering department, which includes, Civil Structural, Electrical, Control & Instrumentation, Engineering Management, Robotics, and Technology Solutions. You will work in our market which is predominantly focused on delivering engineering and waste management projects for clients within the Nuclear Decommissioning sector, with some projects focused on other stages of the nuclear lifecycle. We have strong capabilities in mechanical handling, machinery design, UKCA Marking, design & analysis, and delivering collaboratively on multidisciplinary projects. We tackle projects that have varied engineering, nuclear and safety challenges, which requires proactive and mixed-skill delivery teams working collaboratively to deliver a high-quality solution. Read more about how you can thrive with us: Equality, diversity & inclusion in the UK & Europe (atkinsrealis.com) The Role: As part of our DWS business you will work with a team of engineers to provide design and engineering support for a variety of projects and for a variety of clients; a good portion of our work is for clients in West Cumbria and within the nuclear decommissioning market. In the Mechanical Engineering team, we deliver most of our work in the study, concept design and detailed design phases. However, this has been expanding over the last few years to encompass the full project lifecycle, with more of our focus required to deliver and support commissioning, installation, FAT testing, site testing, on-site operations, and on-site demolition/decommissioning. Within the role you could be involved in delivering engineering design solutions throughout the full design lifecycle, including preparation of 3D models, hand calculations, mechanical analysis reports, various drawings and supporting technical documentation. You could be assigned various tasks including leading teams of engineers and technicians on project tasks, detail checking the work of others, originating specific deliverables, whilst ensuring that work is delivered on time and in accordance with the appropriate Quality Assurance (QA) processes. The Individual: You will possess a good understanding of engineering principles, with experience in delivering solutions to technical problems, engineering design, technical calculations & analysis, and 3D model & drawing production. You will understand various technical, safety and legislative documentation, such as risk assessments, CDM regulations, method statements, UKCA Technical Files, etc. You will be motivated and proactive with a willingness to learn and adapt. You’ll be able to work both independently and as part of a team and possess good interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. You will be comfortable working remotely and within an office, dictated as and when by project, task, people/team and business needs – agile working.
