Job Summary
South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, experienced and passionate cancer nurse to join our team as a Lead Cancer Nurse working within the corporate nursing and quality team.
STSFT provide cancer services to a wide range of patients across many tumour groups from diagnosis, through treatment and best supportive care. As lead cancer nurse you will play a key strategic role collaborating with the multi-disciplinary teams and linking with external colleagues regionally and nationally to influence care pathways for patients, promoting and celebrating the role of the cancer nurse through this journey. The lead cancer nurse role will support clinical teams to ensure that care is well co-ordinated, personalised and of high quality helping to design and implement new and improved ways of working.
The post holder will be operationally responsible for the delivery of cancer personalised care through line manager of the personalised care team and cancer support and information centre including volunteers.
Main Duties of the Job
The lead cancer nurse will have experience of working with cancer patients and experience of working in a senior position within a complex healthcare environment; they will have studied at Masters level and have experience of leading service development projects and change management. The lead cancer nurse will need to collaborate and influence outside of line management both internal and external to the trust and will have a passion for improving the quality of cancer care. Key dimensions of the role include the cancer nursing workforce, cancer education, personalised cancer care, patient experience and continuous improvement.
The post is currently based at Sunderland Royal Hospital but will work across both Sunderland and South Tyneside acute hospital sites and community services, and flexibility can be offered around the preferred base including some opportunity for home working. The post holder will manage their own diary routinely working Monday to Friday during normal working times, however some degree of flexibility may be required.

Job Responsibilities
The Cancer Lead Nurse (CLN) is the lead and expert for cancer nursing across South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust to ensure that services are responsive to patients needs and are aligned to the strategic objectives of the trust and local and national cancer agenda.
The post holder will provide visible senior professional and clinical leadership, advice, support, and consultancy to other senior clinicians across all professional boundaries and all organisational structures.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care for cancer patients by providing professional leadership to cancer nurse specialists within the trust and enabling transformational opportunities through compiling business cases that support and develop high quality, person-centred cancer nursing care in line with local, regional and national guidelines.
The post holder is responsible for ensuring that nursing practice and processes enable performance targets linked to cancer nursing to meet the required standards.
The CLN will develop a knowledge rich and inquiry culture across the cancer workforce that contributes to research outputs and educational programmes, which promote development, quality and innovation.
The post holder will be operationally responsible for the delivery of cancer personalised care; line managing the personalised care team, including personalised care/Macmillan centre managers, assistant managers and volunteers.
The post holder is responsible for managing the budget of the personalised care team/ Macmillan centre and working in partnership with charitable organisations around the funding and provision of cancer support services.

Qualifications
Essential
* Registered and practising nurse with current live NMC registration.
* Masters Degree in relevant subject or working towards this.
* Evidence of recent Professional Development.
Desirable
* Teaching qualification (98/730) or equivalent.
* Recognised leadership qualification.
Experience
Essential
* Extensive clinical experience, of which a substantial proportion must be within a clinical cancer environment.
* Experience of budget management and evidence of achieving financial targets.
* Demonstrate a track record of practice development and change management.

* Experience in formulating policies, procedures and report writing.
Desirable
* Experience of cancer services peer review / quality surveillance process.
