Job summary The Healthcare Science Associate provides a supporting role to the Department of Critical Care Science, working collaboratively as part of a multi-professional team providing scientific expertise and knowledge of physiology and technology involved in the delivery of care to critically ill patients. The post holder will gain an understanding of and perform a range of technical and scientific procedures and practices, developing skills and knowledge required to work as a Healthcare Science Associate, acquired through practical experience and training. If appointed into this role as an apprenticeship, GCSE's (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science are required and a BTEC Level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science will be obtained as part of the apprenticeship programme. The post holder will have a flexible approach to undertaking other duties that are consistent with the role including project work, internal job rotation and absence cover. The post is based in Mid Essex-Broomfield Hospital. Main duties of the job Work collaboratively to assist the department in the provision of a safe and high-quality service for all its users. Develop and maintain productive working relationships with all staff to ensure the smooth running of the department. Establish and maintain excellent communication with patients, relatives, carers, NHS organisations, external suppliers, and members of the public. Provide and receive routine or sensitive information where there may be barriers to understanding relating to Critical Care Science. Analytical approach required to diagnose and resolve problems including fault finding on complex clinical devices, escalating in accordance with appropriate procedures. Understand information and situations to formulate solutions and aid decision making using information and facts gathered from electronic patient databases and clinical devices. Perform preparation, basic maintenance, calibration, and quality procedures of specialist bedside clinical devices. Always maintain highest standards of patient care, ensuring confidentiality, comfort, and dignity. Undertake appropriate audit and research trial activities to support quality improvement. Support the development and maintenance of standards as required to contribute to safe, effective, and efficient functioning of the service.
