Overview of the role:
The CMS Group is growing and supplies crushing parts for the mining and aggregate industries exports to 130+ countries. With operations in the UK,US, Chile, and Australia We currently have approximately 140 employees in the UK with a global headcount approaching 200.
Due to business growth, we are seeking a dedicated and proactive IT Manager to support and manage the company’s technology infrastructure. As our IT Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all IT operations, ensuring systems run efficiently, and helping to align technology with the overall business goals. You will manage both hardware and software, address technical issues, and work to optimize technology resources for the team.
You will report to the Head of Engineering, who has previously overseen the IT function. On a day-to-day basis, you will work autonomously, managing stakeholders and effectively prioritizing tasks, supported by a small team that includes one direct report and an external IT supplier. Your responsibilities will encompass IT support delivery, network administration, data management, business resilience, cybersecurity, system development, GDPR compliance, the development of IT policies, and continuous improvement initiatives. As a global organization, we offer flexible working patterns, but there may be occasions when out-of-hours support is required to ensure system critical support
Key Responsibilities:
Technical:
* Network Administration: Oversee the management of network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN, DNS, firewalls, routers, and switches. Ensure robust network security and monitor traffic to prevent unauthorized access.
* Data Management & Backup: Oversee backup systems Windows servers, ensuring full data recovery in case of system failures. Implement disaster recovery plans and perform regular testing to ensure reliability.
* System Development & Maintenance: Oversee the development and continuous improvement of IT systems, ensuring all updates, rollouts, and system changes are smoothly implemented.
* Maintain inventory of hardware, peripheral units and software licenses.
* Infrastructure Alignment: Align IT infrastructure with both current and future business requirements, supporting organizational growth and innovation.
* Technical Support Oversight: Lead the IT support function, ensuring that all technical issues are resolved efficiently to minimize downtime and uphold service-level agreements.
* Analysis of system performance metrics and provide recommendations for improvements.
* Training & Documentation train staff on best practices for technology use and create documentation for internal procedures, troubleshooting guides, and systems.
* Budgeting & Cost Control manage the IT budget, making sure that technology investments align with the company’s financial goals.
Resilience, Security and Compliance
* Document existing IT architecture
* Develop and enforce IT policies and procedures to enhance security and efficiency.
* Improve IT security, facilitate IT audit and act on recommendations, maintain penetration testing, build on existing cyber security training for all users
* GDPR being part of the group that ensures GDPR compliance
Working with others and developing the CMS Group
* Collaborate with other departments to understand their IT needs and provide appropriate solutions.
* Lead IT projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within scope.
* Manage and develop the IT Assistant
* Any other ad hoc requests from Senior Management
Knowledge & Experience
* Proficiency in Microsoft technologies including 365 Administration
* Experience with Cloud infrastructure and Sophos Central or other firewalls
* Experience in IT Front line support
* People management experience
