Our goal is to enable the analysis of any living thing, by anyone, anywhere Location : Oxford Nanopore Technologies, Oxford, UK Duration : 3 months, with potential for extension Start Date : Summer 2025 Hours : Full-time About the Role As a Software Engineer Intern working on the microfluidics platform, you’ll play a key role in developing and optimizing software that precisely controls fluidic systems in our devices. This is a unique opportunity to apply your coding skills to real-world challenges in biotechnology, gaining hands-on experience in embedded systems, control algorithms, and high-performance software development. You’ll collaborate with engineers and researchers to build and test control software that directly impacts the performance of our sequencing devices. Details Design, develop, and test software solutions for controlling microfluidic components and systems within our sequencing devices. Work with sensors, actuators, and embedded systems to develop efficient control algorithms for fluid handling. Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate and troubleshoot software on physical devices, ensuring seamless operation and performance. Perform code reviews, document findings, and contribute to team knowledge-sharing. Engage in continuous learning to stay current on advancements in embedded systems, software engineering, and microfluidics. Requirements Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field. Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, or embedded C. Familiarity with embedded systems, including hands-on experience with microcontrollers, sensors, or control systems. Knowledge of software development best practices, including version control (e.g., Git), debugging, and testing. Interest in applying software skills to biological or fluidic systems, with a passion for innovation in biotechnology. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team. Eligibility Successful candidates will be available to accept a minimum 3-month placement, commencing from spring/summer 2025. Specific dates will be discussed at interview.
