Job description:
As Deputy Manager, your role is to assist the manager in achieving the aims and objectives of the Statement of Purpose and uphold the organisation’s mission statement and values. To deputise for the Home Manager in the event that they are on leave or otherwise absent from the home. To support and manage the care team to enable them to dynamically meet the changing needs of the children and young people, and to support in the day to day running and delivery of practice across the home.
The deputy manager role is to support the Registered Home Manager in providing the best quality childcare in a safe and care focused environment for the children. When on shift you will have initial responsibilities for monitoring and supervision of staff and take responsibility for the daily management, and guidance of colleagues whilst ensuring the welfare and care of the young people. As a deputy manager, you are expected to support the development of your residential care worker colleagues; achieved through effective shift planning, guidance, task setting, and debrief and reflection. You will further support the Home Manager in establishing an effective On-call structure which provides wrap around support for the care team at all times.
You will undertake direct work with the children and young people as appropriate, taking an active role in reviewing case files, updating plans, and supporting professional reviewing meetings, advocating support for the child where necessary. The children and young people that we care for can demonstrate a wide range of challenging behaviours and can be very demanding of time, attention, and emotions. The focus of every staff member is to work actively to meet the needs of the children and young people in our care; achieved through a dynamic and active team.
You will ensure each shift is planned and resources allocated. Work in partnership with other professionals to achieve optimum outcomes for young people. Offer supervision and support to the Care Team in line with Quality Standards & Regulations and as directed by the Home Manager. Promote a PACE approach across the home, and role model best practice throughout the shift.
Requirements:
* Qualifications QCF 3/4 Health and Social, Children and Young People
* Must have 2 Years experience working in a Residential Children's home setting.
* Driving Licence – Essential
·Knowledge of Children’s Homes Regs. (England) 2015; The Children’s Act 1989 & 2004; Children’s Rights
·Effective communication skills: recording, report writing and verbal communication.
* Understanding of Therapeutic practices
* Understanding of Child protection and Safeguarding legislation and procedures.
* Able to work individually and within a team.
* Openness and commitment to personal development, identified training and professional development.
Conditions of service:
Salary range is: £31,000 - £34,500 per annum.
Salary is dependent upon your level of qualification and experience and is calculated at a base rate of 40 hours per week, working predominantly Monday to Friday.
Your role may require you to cover shifts absences, which will include Sleep in duties.
Sleeps will be paid in addition to this at the rate of £50 per Sleep.
Hours: Your contracted hours will be 40 hours per week - (full time). Actual hours are determined by the requirements of the home and covering the rota and may include weekend-work, sleep-ins, and office hours.
You may be required to work bank holidays, Christmas, and New Year holidays, enabling the children and young people in our care to be supported through, essentially, family orientated occasions.
