Role Overview: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support students who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Your primary responsibility will be to help these students access the curriculum, manage their behavior, and build the social and emotional skills needed for success. You will work closely with teachers and other staff members to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student feels supported and motivated to learn. Key Responsibilities of an SEMH TA: Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, ensuring they can participate in lessons and activities. Help students develop strategies to manage their emotions, behaviors, and social interactions. Support students in overcoming barriers to learning and engagement. Collaborate with teachers to adapt learning materials and strategies to meet individual needs. Encourage positive behavior and contribute to maintaining a safe and supportive classroom environment. Monitor students' progress and provide feedback to teachers, parents, and other relevant professionals. Foster a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere where every student feels valued and respected. What We Are Looking for in a SEMH Teaching Assistant: A passion for supporting students with SEMH needs and helping them thrive academically and socially. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents. Experience of working with children, particularly those with SEMH, is preferred but not essential. Patience, empathy, and the ability to manage challenging behaviors in a positive and constructive manner. A flexible approach to working with students who have diverse needs.
