GENERAL WORKER REQUIRED
To join a progressive, successful and longstanding Baldock based firm
We design and manufacture in Baldock a successful range of long-established engine components that we sell globally.
The successful candidate must have a mature, positive and can-do attitude. They will be happy, once trained, to work largely alone but will also be expected to work along-side staff of all levels when required. They will ultimately be expected to perform a wide range of tasks that MAY over time come to include, but WILL NOT BE LIMITED TO,
Product packing
Product assembly, across the entire product range
Stock taking and assistance with stock management
Linishing
Shot blasting
Welding
Driving – if a current full driving licence is held
Cleaning and tidying
Offsite work occasionally
The thriving applicant may, after completing appropriate training, be expected to operate CNC machines, of which we will soon have eight, performing various manufacturing operations.
Evidence of the skills gained while with past employers, including CNC operation etc., would be desirable BUT IS NOT A REQUIREMENT.
The successful candidate will likely have a general interest in engineering, manufacturing, engines and transport although this is not a prerequisite.
Position Specifics
Job Description: The successful applicant may be asked to undertake a wide variety of tasks and so for the entirety of their employment the job title would be that of a - General Worker. This is not to limit the candidate’s promotion prospects nor their potential future remuneration, but to ensure we foster a modern flexible work force.
Trail Period: A minimum 6 month trial period will apply to the successful applicant.
Current Working Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday with an hour off for lunch. Note: These hours may change slightly at the management’s discretion and may also differ on occasion.
Time keeping: The successful applicant will be expected to reliably attend between the hours of business operation except on bank and personal holidays. The dates of personal holidays must be agreed with management being taken.
Holidays: 25 days of annual holiday allowance are given, typically 3 to 4 days of which must be taken over the Christmas period. The UK’s 8 annual bank holidays are respected. The successful candidate may be placed in an employee holiday pool and asked not to take vacations at the same time as others in their pool.
Salary: To be discussed with a modest increase upon successful completion of the trial period (a minimum 6 months). A Christmas bonus may be paid before the holiday period at management’s discretion.
Dress: The clothing worn to work must be appropriate for our factory environment and as such regular (not lose) fitting clothing covering all but the hands and lower arms are demanded.
Sickness: A Doctor’s Note will be requested after 7 continuous calendar days of absence. We reserve the right to request that an employee absent for more than 7 days be seen by the company’s doctor.
The consumption of recreational drugs AT ANY TIME while in the employ of the company is strictly prohibited and a breach of this rule may result in dismissal. The successful candidate must attend the workplace free from the detrimental effects of medication, recreational drugs and alcohol. Within the factory working day the consumption of alcohol is prohibited.
Summary
The successful candidate will be expected to show good interpersonal skills and have a warm demeanour towards their colleagues and the company’s customers and suppliers. They must be both enthusiastic and progressive of mind. They may have a general interest in traditional metalwork manufacturing and associated areas and may bring with them some skills gained from past employment in possibly related areas. The job description will always be that of a General Worker not least because we operate in an uncertain and fast changing economic climate and today’s successful businesses require and prize flexible adaptable employees.
