Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 midwife to join the maternity team on a 12 month fixed term basis as a Midwife with an Interest in diabetes. You will work collaboratively with a dedicated multidisciplinary team who have a well established diabetes across both Royal Stoke and County. The midwifery element of the team caseload women and birthing people with pre existing diabetes. We will shortly be launching a service centred around care of women and birthing people diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. There is the opportunity to take part in audit as part of the NPID collection. You will also be supported and encouraged to deliver Diabetes training as part of mandatory training for midwives and students and to develop an understanding of diabetes in relation to Saving Babies Lives V3. This is an exiting opportunity to enhance your knowledge and extend your skills in this specialist midwifery area. We are looking for a midwife who is committed to developing the current diabetes service and working collaboratively with the wider maternity team. The post will involve case loading and as such there will be a requirement to work within both the hospital and community setting. Full UK driving licence is required for this post and access to a vehicle. Main duties of the job Education for those who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes, with dietetic and diabetes specialist nurse support. Review of glucose levels for women with diabetes during pregnancy with diabetes specialist nurse support. Support and review of women with pre-existing diabetes. Support for multidisciplinary team clinics - antenatal and pre-conception clinic Midwife antenatal education clinics. Providing a point of contact for those with diabetes during pregnancy. Being a point of contact for maternity wards and other staff who care for women with diabetes, within the inpatient and outpatient settings. Education for student midwives, and other mandatory training for midwives and doctors. Inpatient review for women with diabetes during pregnancy and on maternity wards with diabetes specialist nurse support. Implementing Saving Babies' LivesV3, Element6, working collaboratively with the Lead Midwife for Saving Babies Lives and within the multidisciplinary team. Completing training on CGM (part of Saving Babies' Lives, Element6 ) and to upskill on the use of HCL systems during pregnancy. Completing the National Pregnancy in Diabetes audit each year. Providing safe and evidence-based care for those with diabetes in the maternity service. Updating policies and guidelines in relation to diabetes and pregnancy to include national guidance, such as from NICE and JBDS.
