Job Summary Fully run the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring customer KPIs are met, all vehicles are operated within legal parameters and drivers are managed on their individual performance. Tracking the fleet, managing both core and agency drivers and gaining maximum utilisation of the fleet available are all key components to this role.
Responsibilities
Ensuring the transport plan is fully executed in line with or as close to the original plan. Specifically this includes tracking of all vehicles/drivers in-line with expected timelines and progress chasing any deliveries that are considered in jeopardy or that deviate significantly from expectations.
React to all unforeseen events across the shifts in a timely and professional fashion. Reduce any negative impact these events may have led to by utilising the resources at your disposal.
Looking ahead at the forthcoming 24 hour period to check that the scheduled resource allocated to the plans are accurate, achievable and as cost effective as possible.
Monitor the flow of unit and trailer availability to ensure vehicles are available when planned and trailers are been circulated in the correct order needed at that time.
Manage defects reported, ensuring these are captured within Axscend and completed, ensuring a timely and cost effective return to active fleet.
Working on self or team initiative, introduce new ways of working to improve the engagement on site.
Escalate any customer service delivery issues through discussion with relevant customer. Formalising any lates or failures by communicating these to the customer and the National Account Manager as they happen and throughout the shift is essential.
Monitor loading to ensure core fleet deliveries have a timely despatch
Manage the inbound and shunting operation to ensure traffic flows around the yard are safe, efficient and timely.
Ensure all trackers including activity tracker are completed daily and accurately
Facilitate an accurate and detailed handover to the following shift, ensuring all key points in the past and future are clearly communicated.
Manage all aspects of core drivers in line with company policies and procedures.
Working with the Transport Manager ensure fleet and drivers are fully compliant with legal and company requirements.
Accident reporting and investigating.
Handling of disciplinary, grievance, absence and investigatory meetings.
Working with the driver trainers and the Senior Management team to develop, provide and organise training for the core drivers.
Any other duties as required.
Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook, with strong computer literacy skills.
Expertise in managing the movement of goods and coordinating with suppliers, distributors, and customers to ensure smooth and efficient transport operations.
Strong focus on customer satisfaction, including handling complaints, managing expectations, and ensuring timely deliveries to clients.
Proficient in managing fleets of vehicles, including scheduling, maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards.
In-depth knowledge of transport laws and regulations, including vehicle licensing, safety standards, and environmental rules, ensuring operations comply with all legal requirements.
Ability to quickly identify problems in transport operations and make data-driven decisions to resolve issues and maintain service levels.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Proven capability to manage teams and foster a collaborative work environment.
Familiarity with office procedures and administrative tasks related to transportation operations.
