Job summary The Clinical Physics team provide a wide range of physics and engineering services to the Trust. Radiation Safety provide diagnostic radiology physics services and radiation safety advice and support to all users of ionising radiation in the Trust including all modalities of Radiology, Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine/PET and Radiopharmacy. We also provide services to external customers. We are looking for two motivated and dynamic Physicists to join our growing, friendly and brilliant Radiation Safety team. You will work as a Medical Physics Expert in Diagnostic Radiology gaining a breadth of experience across many areas of radiation safety. You will also have the opportunity to focus on a particular imaging modality and/or subject area including, but not limited to, Cardiology, Mammography, CT, practice education and AI, so this is a fantastic opportunity to expand your knowledge, impact services and contribute to radiation safety developments across the Trust. Main duties of the job The Trust includes St Bartholomew's Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, Newham University Hospital, Whipps Cross University Hospital and Mile End Hospital based across the City of London and East London. Radiation Safety is based at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel but you will be expected to work on all Trust and client sites. The Barts and the Royal London sites have been built and equipped under a PFI and have a comprehensive equipment refresh programme resulting in state of the art imaging equipment. Our first photon counting CT scanner has just been installed and another will be installed in our CDC later this year, so there are exciting times ahead These new permanent posts are to expand the Radiation Safety team to provide closer MPE/ RPA working with the clinical departments and become more integrated into the clinical teams. The post holders will be expected to get involved with the wide range of radiation safety work provided by the section and support the site Radiation Safety leads. You should have, or be in a position to achieve within 12 months of appointment, MPE certification. You should have experience in Diagnostic Radiology and radiation protection in healthcare. You must be registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist. Applicants with less experience can be considered for a development role, appointed at Band 7 initially.
