Learning Support Assistants Needed in a Secondary School in Portsmouth!

The school is seeking multiple dedicated and experienced Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to join their thriving secondary school in Portsmouth. This role requires LSAs with a proven track record in supporting students with a range of learning needs, from Special Educational Needs (SEN) to Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Classroom Support: Provide in-class support to students with varying needs, helping them understand tasks, manage time effectively, and stay engaged with lesson activities.
2. One-to-One and Small Group Support: Work with individual students or small groups outside the main classroom setting, providing focused assistance to reinforce learning, develop study skills, and build confidence.
3. Adapt and Differentiate Resources: Collaborate with teachers to adapt materials and resources, ensuring they are accessible for students with different learning needs and abilities.
4. Behavioural and Emotional Support: Help manage and support students with SEMH needs, using positive reinforcement and a calm, structured approach to promote positive behaviours.
5. Communication and Relationship Building: Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, creating a safe and trusting environment that encourages open communication and builds student's confidence and self-esteem.
6. Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with teachers, SENDCo, and other LSAs to develop and implement strategies that meet each student's needs effectively and foster a cohesive support network.
7. Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor student progress, behaviour, and engagement, providing regular feedback to the class teacher and SENDCo. Keep accurate records of any observations or issues that arise.
8. Promote Independence: Encourage students to develop independence in their learning and self-management skills, empowering them to take an active role in their education.
Expectations for the Ideal Candidate:
1. Experienced in Supporting SEN/SEND/SEMH: You'll have hands-on experience supporting students with additional needs, and the ability to adapt your approach based on each student's specific challenges.
2. Compassionate and Patient: A caring, patient attitude is essential, as well as an ability to remain calm and provide clear, constructive guidance to students.
3. Strong Communicator: Excellent communication skills are crucial, both for interacting effectively with students and for working collaboratively with school staff and parents.
4. Flexible and Adaptable: The school environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, so flexibility and a willingness to adapt are key.
