An opportunity has arisen at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust for an enthusiastic, dedicated and ambitious individual to join and lead our Financial Services team.
The post will lead and oversee the Financial Services Department, along with being a key member of the Senior Finance Team. The role will play a key part in taking all aspects of financial services forward, including being a key link to operational teams. The successful candidate will form part of our friendly 'Can Do' attitude.

We are a driven and motivated team passionate about the development of our finance team. We have professional accreditation with ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA and AAT, as well as holding Level 2 Future Focused Finance accreditation and offer support for further training and professional development.
Main duties of the job
The successful individual will lead a strong and competent financial services team, ensuring that efficient and effective processes are in place across the department, including good corporate governance, whilst always having a thought towards continual improvement.
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing a high quality and comprehensive finance service to ensure immediate and long-term financial viability and stability across the organisation. Candidates should be future-focused with a passion for improving patient care and demonstrate commitment to achieving both their own and the Trust's goals.

Job responsibilities
This job description is the generic overview for the 4xWTE Associate Directors of Finance. Role specific responsibilities and tasks are listed in the appendices to this document.
To provide the professional and managerial lead for the Financial Management/ Financial Services/ Clinical Income/ Contracting function in order to ensure the provision of high quality, comprehensive financial information for decision making to all levels within the organisation including overall systems review and development and compliance with all relevant legislation and guidance, accounting standards, Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions.
Ensures efficiency, effectiveness, integrity and business focus of financial systems and processes.
Investigates and advises on highly complex issues and leads on corporate reporting/providing strategic financial and business planning advice.
To ensure the delivery of all financial reporting and statutory requirements of the Trust for internal and external purposes including reporting requirements for the Board of Directors, Board of Governors, Board sub-committees, NHS England and the Department of Health.
Ensures all statutory/NHS accounts and returns represent a true and fair view and meet financial timescales and legal requirements, interpreting these where necessary.
Person Specification
Experience
* Substantial knowledge of financial and accounting procedures.
* Experience of Finance at a Senior Level.
* Experience of working in the NHS.
* Continuing Professional development in line with professional bodies requirements will be supported and the post holder will be expected to participate as required.
* Experience of managing a large team.
Other Skills
* Excellent communication skills including presentation and summary of complex data into meaningful information for managers.
* Ability to co-ordinate and manage a team of specialists/expert to achieve strategic objectives.
* Able to use initiative to pursue challenging and difficult issues with confidence, drive and tact in order to achieve results.
* Effective negotiation skills and ability to interact effectively with senior management.
* Experience of presenting financial information and preparing reports for a non-finance audience.
* Experience of training and/or coaching staff.
Qualifications
* CCAB qualified accountant.
* Management qualification or evidence of participation in management development training.
Skills and Knowledge
* IT skills will be expected to be a high level, including experience of financial ledgers, financial coding structures, spreadsheets and work processing applications.
* Excellent skills in analysing, interpreting and using highly complex data.
* Ability to use judgement to compare and evaluate options, for example relating to business cases or allocation of financial resources.
* Effective problem-solving skills, especially for new issues where no precedent to follow.
* Ability to critically review guidance, accounting standards and policies, some of which may be in draft form or constantly changing, to judge the application and implications of these for the section, department or Trust and take decisions based on such judgements.
* Understanding of complex financial issues around the Trust's services.
* Experience of financial modelling to support NHSFT Annual Plan and/or LTFM.
* Good understanding of local health economy.
* Working knowledge of clinical and non-clinical services provided by the Trust.
Physical Skills
* Physical mainly light physical effort standing/sitting/walking.
* Mental frequent concentration required for calculations and reconciliation of information, unpredictable work patterns often necessitating switching tasks/priorities at no or little notice, prolonged periods of concentration often required for complex data/statistical analysis and for preparation of financial reports and returns.
* Ability to work across sites as required.
