The Role:
Our Novation iOS Apps team is searching for an experienced iOS developer to help us build, maintain and improve our industry leading music creation applications. Enjoyed by millions of users worldwide, we empower musicians and producers of all levels to make and remix electronic music. You’ll work on apps that provide users with a rich selection of sound packs provided by our in-house content team.
Your role will involve collaborating to research, design, build and maintain features responsible for low latency multi-audio playback, looping, FX chaining, and seamless integrations with Apple frameworks. You’ll be collaborating with a diverse team, with a range of skills and experiences both remotely and in-person. The team regularly takes part in continuous discovery sessions to input new ideas into the product. You’ll be part of this, challenging and putting forward new and innovative ideas, in a clear and collaborative way.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Developing the application:
o Design and build scalable, maintainable and testable features for an audio-focused mobile app
o Identify and triage technical improvements across a large codebase
o Use popular CI/CD tooling to deliver rapid feedback and deployment
o Continuously refactor and modernise code to support the ongoing improvement of the application
o Collaborate with team members on testing and ensuring a high level of quality
2. Download & File Management:
o Develop features for download and managing audio files from a CMS sound library
o Implement robust file storage and caching strategies for smooth offline use
o Create intuitive interfaces for browsing, organising and searching audio content
3. Audio playback:
o Maintain functionality for the playback, mixing and looping of multiple audio files simultaneously
o Optimise playback for precise timing and low-latency
o Work closely with a sound-packs content team to ensure accurate behaviour and synchronisation
4. Subscription Models:
o Adapt products and services with in-app purchases and subscriptions allowing users to access premium content and features
o Ensure a seamless and secure purchasing experience adhering to App Store guidelines
o Debug and identify issues affecting users
5. UI Design:
o Design and implement dynamic UIs for controlling and visualising audio playback
o Create features that inspire users to express their creative ideas
o Partner with Product Design, QA and Product Owners to deliver high quality, user-friendly interfaces
6. Collaborating with the team:
o Organising opportunities for your learning and career development
o Mentoring team members in learning new skills and knowledge
o Feedback regularly with team members via pairing and peer review
Skills and experience required:
* Proficient in Swift and Objective-C, some C++ experience would be desirable
* Familiarity with Apple Frameworks, such as StoreKit, UIKit, AVFoundation, Core Audio, Combine and Async Await
* A strong understanding of mobile architectural design patterns and their use
* Experience with multithreading, concurrency and low-latency performance
* Experience integrating with backend hosted services and APIs
* Familiarity with audio workflows and terminology
