Main duties of the job
To lead on risk for maternity in conjunction with the designated Consultant Obstetric leads for governance and the Maternity Safety & Governance lead.
1. To collaborate with the maternity education leads (PDM team) to ensure that the development of education and training provision meets the clinical needs of the maternity service and focuses around lessons learnt from patient safety incidents to achieve improved maternal health and birth outcomes at HHFT.
2. To ensure the Professional Midwifery Advocates are aware as soon as possible of incidents where staff may require support and assist with arranging supportive meetings where needed.
3. To be responsive and flexible to the changing priorities of the service and within the remit of the role.
4. Maintain the records of all patient safety incidents and the maternity risk tracker to enable oversight by the Maternity Safety & Governance lead.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Registered midwife.
Experience
Essential criteria
* At least 3 years experience in an acute NHS healthcare setting.
* Evidence of undertaking senior/lead roles dealing with risk management, quality of care or patient safety issues.
* Experience of working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.
Desirable criteria
* Experience of undertaking audits/surveys/focus groups and change management.
Skills
Essential criteria
* Knowledge of quality improvement methods and techniques.
* Specialist knowledge of all stages of the governance cycle. In depth specialist knowledge of NHS clinical governance strategy, policy and current issues.
* Able to organise and facilitate meetings effectively.
