Emergency Surgical Nurse Practitioner (ESNP)

Owing to the imminent retirement of the current post holder, we are looking for an experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner, with specialty specific skills and knowledge, to jointly lead and develop both our small team of Emergency Surgical Nurse Practitioners and our acute Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Service.
Main duties of the job
In addition to being an active non-medical prescriber and holding a Masters (or equivalent) in Advanced Clinical Practice, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the clinical utilization and synthesis of Advanced skills across the 4 pillars of practice enabling safe, independent, clinical decision-making essential for the continuation of our practitioner led service.
This is an established role, recognized and valued by all members of the CBU, patients and their families. It embodies the definition of advanced practice, empowering the post holder to implement innovative solutions to enhance people's experience and improve outcomes.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Health Professional
* MSc or equivalent in Autonomous Healthcare
* Non-medical prescribing
* Teaching Qualification (DipHE/998)
* Management or leadership qualification
Knowledge
* Experience as an autonomous practitioner in an acute setting in a hospital environment
* Leading change within a clinical environment
* Enthusiasm for learning and ongoing professional development demonstrated through critical portfolio of practice
* Experience of staff management
* Awareness and understanding of current issues within advanced practice and the NHS
* Evidence of budget management
Skills
* The ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive and/or contentious information in complex situations
* The ability to alter communication strategies dependent on the situation and the person's status.
* The autonomy and authority to independently make clinical decisions/judgments within own scope of competence and act on those decisions/judgments in partnership with individual patients.
* Able to perform advanced clinical examination and history taking
* Able to independently prescribe medications and formulate treatment plans
* Able to allocate and delegate workload responsibly and provide clinical supervision for a range of healthcare professionals as required.
* The ability to work independently and in partnership with others to develop and implement policies for service development within the surgical CMT which impacts beyond own service area
* Completion of ESP Portfolio of Clinical Practice reflecting Advanced Clinical, Analytical and Communication skills.
