Who Are We? Thaleron is a driven team with significant financial backing developing an entirely new mechanical energy storage technology. We have proven it in the lab, and are now building our first scale prototypes. Our aim is not to just make a carbon-free grid cost-competitive with fossil fuels, but drastically cheaper. If we succeed, we will unlock the fourth industrial revolution. Your Team We believe in small superstar teams, with high autonomy and responsibility. As a Mechanical Engineer at Thaleron, you’ll be part of a team of world experts, developing new concepts, rapidly building and testing to destruction. Our team is onsite in Maidenhead at least three days per week, creating an environment conducive to rapid innovation and seamless teamwork. Your Role We have built a world-class team of Engineers who are excellent at generating novel concepts, quickly assessing feasibility from first principles calculations and rapidly iterating through sketches to define an idea. As we start building prototypes, and with one eye on the next generation of Thaleron products, we need to hire 1-2 Design Engineers: 3D Modelling and Design : Develop detailed 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks for new and existing mechanical components. Engineering Drawings : Produce high-quality 2D drawings in accordance with BS 8888 or other relevant international drawing standards. GD&T Application : Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to ensure precise and functional designs. Design Optimization : Conduct design evaluations to ensure manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and reliability. Prototyping and Testing : Collaborate with the rest of the team to create prototypes and conduct performance testing to validate designs. Document Management : Maintain detailed design documentation, including specifications, reports, and revisions. Problem-Solving : Analyze mechanical issues and implement solutions to improve design functionality and performance. What you need to succeed: Standards Knowledge : Familiarity with BS 8888, ISO standards, and other relevant engineering drawing conventions. GD&T : Strong understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Analytical Skills : Ability to perform design calculations and finite element analysis (FEA). Communication : Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical reporting and team collaboration. Problem-Solving : A proactive approach to identifying and resolving design challenges. Energy: You’re someone who loves working in the design phase, and you’re happy spending the majority of your time designing in CAD. Demonstrable: You can show us numerous examples of components / systems that you have designed that have made it through to production Candidate Journey: 1. Talent Screen - video call (30-45 minutes) - an introductory call with our talent consultant. 2. Technical Interview - video call (60 minutes) - initial, technically focused interview with one of our Engineers 3. Onsite meeting (120 minutes) - in-person meeting with the team in Maidenhead. You'll participate in a collaborative task and spend valuable time with the whole team. This process is designed to give you every chance to get the measure of us, and us of you. The various stages give you a fair opportunity to show your unique strengths and qualities, and enables each of us to establish if we’re a good fit for the other. Please share with us any individual needs or reasonable adjustments we may need to make in advance of commencing the interview process with us.
