This client is a private company responsible for managing, maintaining, and improving the A13 road in London, a major route connecting Central London to areas in East London and Essex. They hold a long-term contract to provide road management services, ensuring that the A13 road remains in good condition and meets safety and operational standards.
Your new role
As new Structures Manager you will manage the maintenance, inspection, and management of structures associated with highways, such as bridges, tunnels, culverts, retaining walls, and gantries. You will ensure these structures are safe, well-maintained, and compliant with regulations while supporting the long-term functionality of the highway network.
Your day to day will vary but not be limited to:
1. Organise and manage the inspections and programs, ensuring alignment with hand-back requirements and collaborating with the Commercial Team for tendering processes.
2. Provide expert technical guidance, monitor contractors' inspection work, evaluate compliance with standards, and manage contract administration for defect repairs, including drafting job specifications and supervising tender procedures.
3. Secure necessary permissions for accessing structures, coordinate with the Operations Team for minor repair works, and arrange testing procedures essential for hand-back processes.
4. Engage with relevant professionals, assist the Hand-back Responsible and COO with reports, meetings, and liaison activities, and support all processes related to structural management and hand-back.
5. Review and propose annual budget estimates for structural maintenance, calculate availability deductions for repairs and surveys, and ensure adherence to required standards throughout projects.

You will be able to:
1. Exhibit excellent communication skills and quick decision-making to coordinate multiple contractors.
2. Demonstrate previous highways reactive supervisor experience.
3. Hold an HNC or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
4. Work without supervision and possess the drive and determination to meet targets.
5. Show proven project management experience of highway structures projects and delivery to programme and budget in a safe environment.
6. Develop, mentor, and supervise Highway Structures staff.
7. Prepare design and contract documents in accordance with HA procedures for bridge maintenance.
8. Exhibit good communication and report writing skills commensurate with key client expectations.
