Job: Chief Executive Officer (Hybrid Staines + Remote)
As part of the Professional Development Consortium, this organisation provides independent CPD accreditation for training, learning & coaching activities. They work with training companies, trainers, events companies, coaches & coaching companies to help them tap into the increasing demand for CPD activities by independently accrediting their training, learning & coaching activities for CPD purposes and professional development. Reporting to their Board (usually Chair or President), they seek a Chief Executive Officer / Executive Director to guide their business to the next level.
In partnership with their Board, you will be responsible for:
1. Building their business through increased renewals and business development.
2. Implementing strategic goals and objectives of their organisation.
3. Managing the management team and direct reports.
4. Overseeing all financial and budgetary operations.
5. Shaping and leading on organisational culture to retain and attract colleagues.
6. Implementing policies and procedures at an organisation-wide level.

As their Chief Executive, you will also demonstrate business acumen and:
1. Knowledge of and experience in management and administration.
2. An understanding of running a membership or renewals business.
3. Experience in integrating and coordinating diverse areas of management.
4. Knowledge of human resources, finance, oral and written communications, planning and evaluation, and governance.
Main Duties/Tasks:
Governance:
1. Work with their Board Chair to enable their Board to fulfil its governance functions.
2. Facilitate optimum performance by their Board, its committees, and individual Board members by assisting them to articulate their roles and accountabilities and organising regular performance evaluations.
3. Alongside their Board Chair, focus on their Boards attention to long-range strategic issues.
4. Manage their Board’s due diligence process to ensure timely attention to core issues.
Policy and Planning:
1. Work with their Board and senior staff to determine company values, mission, vision, and short and long-term goals.
2. Monitor and evaluate their company’s relevance to the sector, its effectiveness, and its results.
3. Keep their Board fully informed on the condition of their organisation and on all the important factors influencing it.
4. Identify problems and opportunities and address them; bring those which are appropriate to their Board and/or its committees; and facilitate discussion and deliberation.
5. Inform their Board and its committees about trends, issues, problems, and activities in order to facilitate policymaking. Recommend policy positions.
Management, Finance and Administration:
1. Provide effective oversight of all company activities, and provide strategic leadership to manage day-to-day operations, assuring a smoothly functioning, efficient organisation.
2. Assure operational quality and organisational stability through the development and implementation of standards and controls, systems and procedures, and regular evaluation.
3. Ensure legal compliance in all areas. Oversee financial, tax, risk, and facilities management. Recommend yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manage resources within budget while maintaining quality of service delivery in all areas.
4. Assure a work environment that recruits, retains, and supports quality staff and volunteers. Assure process for selecting, developing, motivating, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
External Relations:
1. Act as an advocate for issues relevant to the organisation, its services and relationships, and serve as chief spokesperson for the company, assuring proper representation.
2. Facilitate the integration of the company into the sector by using effective marketing and communications activities.
3. Initiate, develop, and maintain cooperative relationships with key stakeholders.
4. Work with legislators, regulatory agencies, volunteers, and representatives of CPD and professional bodies and the not-for-profit sector to promote legislative and regulatory policies that address issues for various stakeholders.
Further specific responsibilities include:
1. Maintain existing member services and develop new services to support member operations and, where possible, reduce bottom-line costs.
2. Ensure that members are kept fully informed and abreast of all relevant developments and news through regular personal contact and relevant channels.
3. Develop alternative revenue streams to reduce the organisation’s reliance on membership subscriptions.
Compensation and Benefits:
£75,000 basic salary, £125,000 OTE, plus commission for exceeding business targets.
Benefits: Company pension scheme, 22 days holiday (rising to 27), with additional days for Christmas shopping and birthday.
Location: Hybrid, 3 days in their Staines office, 2 days from home.
