We are on a continuous journey of improvement and transformation; however, our main priority is, and always will be, providing safe and high-quality care to our patients every day; the kind of care we would want for ourselves and our loved ones. If you share our passion, then apply for this opportunity and help us make our patients' experience the best it can possibly be.
With a budget of around £365m, three hospitals, and 5,500 staff, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees, and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield, as well as community, therapeutic, and screening services to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.
Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic colleague to join us and continue the delivery of a high-class Gastroenterology service. This post is designed to support the activities of the gastroenterology/endoscopy department and provide specialist advanced endoscopy training experience in the Division of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy in the trust. The post is initially for 1 year with an opportunity to extend to 2 years by mutual agreement. The post will be primarily based at the North Tees Hospital; however, cross-site working at the Hartlepool hospital for covering endoscopy lists and gastroenterology clinics will be required.
This post offers an opportunity to consolidate endoscopy skills in basic diagnostic gastroscopy and colonoscopy and would be ideal for a senior gastroenterology trainee wishing to expand their endoscopy experience in therapeutic endoscopy and pursue a career in HPB endoscopy. The candidate should be competent in diagnostic gastroscopy and colonoscopy and would be expected to deliver service lists independently by working in a flexible manner.
Main Duties of the Job
This post will include an estimate of 1 flexible service endoscopy list per week (gastroscopy & colonoscopy), 1 inpatient Gastroenterology list, 1 patient-related administration session, and 0.5 audit/research session every week. The work intensity will vary depending on the number of lists cancelled by other endoscopists.
There will be a commitment to advanced endoscopy training (4 lists/week), exposure to outpatient clinic (2/week), and multidisciplinary team meetings (0.5 session/week). There will be opportunities to undertake training in advanced endoscopy techniques such as ERCP, EUS, luminal stenting & dilatation, and polypectomy. There will be opportunities to attend regular multidisciplinary team meetings (UGI/HPB cancer MDT, Benign HPB MDT) and participate in audit/research projects.
