Major Duties and Responsibilities 1. Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by the GPs 2. Cytology / Well woman clinic / breast checks 3. Wound care / ulcer care / Swabs 4. Removal of sutures / clips 5. New Patient Medicals / Over 75 checks / Urinalysis 6. Travel health advice including vaccinations and medications 7. ECGs 8. Asthma / Peak Flow Readings / Spirometry / Nebuliser 9. Venepuncture 10. Hypertension Management 11. Ear Irrigation 12. Routine adult immunisation / childhood immunisations / flu clinic 13. Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician 14. Assisting GPs with minor surgery / coil fittings / post natal checks / child health surveillance 15. Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs, skin scrapings, nail clippings and laboratory preparation / recording results 16. Interest in diabetes / blood glucose monitoring 17. Family planning 18. Giving telephone advice and triaging if necessary 19. Management of asthma clinic 20. Management of coronary heart disease clinic 21. Following and developing agreed clinical protocols with referral to GPs as appropriate Other tasks will include 22. Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs 23. Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required 24. Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms 25. Ordering of Health Promotion Literature 26. Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels 27. Participation in administrative systems in the practice 28. Issuing appropriate prescriptions for items dispensed 29. At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records through the use of the computer / Audit / searches of practice activities 30. A duty to advise GPs of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks 31. Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required. 32. Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
