Assistant Headteacher
Location: Bucknall, Stoke-on-Trent
Salary: Leadership Scale L1-L5 (GBP49,781 - GBP54,939, dependent on experience)
Hours: 40 hours per week, Term-time only

The Role
We are seeking an Assistant Headteacher to lead and develop a KS3 and KS4 department in a specialist SEN setting. This role is ideal for an experienced educational leader with a passion for SEN and Autism, who thrives on building strong teams, driving improvements, and delivering outstanding outcomes for students both academically and emotionally.
As an integral part of the senior leadership team, you will ensure high standards of teaching and learning, mentor staff, and oversee transitions, curriculum development, and student progression.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the KS3 and KS4 department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
* Support students' academic, social, and emotional development, fostering a nurturing learning environment.
* Promote best practices in SEN and Autism, enhancing the knowledge and skills of the teaching team.
* Oversee accreditation pathways, curriculum development, and provision mapping.
* Lead on transition planning, including moving between key stages and post-16 pathways.
* Conduct lesson observations, learning walks, and data analysis to monitor and improve outcomes.
* Act as a role model for outstanding classroom practice, inspiring and mentoring staff.
* Work in partnership with parents, carers, clinical teams, and external professionals to support student progress.
Qualifications And Experience
* PGCE, QTS, Cert Ed, or an equivalent teaching qualification.
* Experience teaching pupils with SEN and Autism.
* Previous experience in a leadership role or leading a department.
* Knowledge of school improvement strategies, Ofsted inspections, and independent school standards.
* Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and support colleagues.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
