This job is for a Consultant Gastroenterologist. The job is a full-time post comprising of 10 Programmed Activities (PA's) including the on call. Those wishing to work less than full time hours will be considered. We encourage those with a sub-specialty interest in ERCP to apply. There is also scope to develop the hepatology and IBD service further.
The Gastro bleed out of hours cover will be provided at Wexham Park. This is currently 1:7 basis with a view to change as more colleagues are recruited. The gastroenterology ward (3) is a 24 bedded unit with 6 side rooms and contains liver, IBD, nutrition and some general medical patients.
The trust has an ambition to deliver a 6/7 day endoscopy service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Weekly MDTs include Colorectal, Upper GI and HPB for malignancy as well as IBD. In addition, there is a weekly medical Grand Round and a journal club.
Gastroenterology consultants are not part of the GIM on call rota. We will provide weekend Gastro zone review combined with emergency GI bleeding provision on a 1:7 basis. The GI bleeding rota is supported by two fully trained endoscopy nurses who attend for out of hours emergencies.
The team are supported at Wexham by 4 IBD CNS, 2 hepatology CNS, 2 nutrition nurses, 1 IBD Coordinator and 1 Hepatology coordinator.
Frimley Health is proud of its high quality endoscopy services which are provided in a 5 roomed dedicated suite at Frimley, 2 brand new rooms in our unit at Heatherwood, where we offer pH, manometry and breath testing. We have 2 procedure rooms in Lady Sobell suite (in-patient and ERCP) and an additional 2 rooms in the new modular unit at Wexham. Services provided include capsule endoscopy, single balloon enteroscopy, HALO and EMR therapy to Barrett's and early oesophageal cancers.
We are very well supported by our anaesthetic colleagues and have access to several weekly propofol lists, to support the complex hepatobiliary and luminal work (e.g. Spyglass).
We have recently appointed 2 clinical fellows for gastro and an endoscopy fellow to help develop and deliver our endoscopy services. Excitingly, we have recently applied as an endoscopy training centre using the new state of the art facility at Heatherwood Hospital.
A formal job plan will be agreed between the post holder and the Chief of Service. The Job Plan will then be reviewed at 3 months and then annually, following their Appraisal Meeting. The Job Plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out a consultant's duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of a consultant's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It provides a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external. In addition, it includes personal objectives, including details of links to wider service objectives, and details of support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.
