The Telegraph is looking for a talented and enthusiastic SEO to join its Audience team to lead on key organic growth strategies for our commerce team. This will be an enthusiastic self-starter who understands the important role search engines and publishers play in the user journey of online shoppers.
Reporting into the Head of Evergreen SEO, you will work closely as part of the wider SEO team, managing the long-life content strategy for affiliate-driven content, working closely with writers and sub-editors on best practice guidelines, identifying new and existing opportunities and reporting on wider performance of some of our most valuable channels.
The best example of our evergreen commercial content can be found within Telegraph Recommended and its associated guides. Telegraph Recommended is highly trusted by our audience to recommend purchases. The increased quality and frequent updates of our Recommended editorial has delivered on and increased that trust, while also delivering affiliate revenue.
We have ambitions to invest and develop Telegraph Recommended into a major channel for the website over the next few years, and are looking for an experienced SEO Manager to support the team in this aim.
Key Responsibilities
* Project manage our evergreen content strategies: planning, briefing and optimising content for a number of verticals.
* Manage and improve a small team of SEOs, actively seeking to improve their skills to achieve personal and business objectives.
* Analysing content performance across Recommended and other ad hoc evergreen categories - to continually optimise performance.
* Set up and manage monthly reports that can be easily digested by senior members of the team.
* Work closely with writing teams, supporting with SEO advice, training sessions, options and optimisations.
* Work with the technical SEO team to create product improvements from a technical perspective.
* Work to commercial & revenue-based KPIs, understanding the impact of decisions made at the top of the funnel.
* Keeping up to date with the world of SEO (and news SEO in particular), attending events and staying ahead of the search engine ecosystem.
* Event-planning, performing keyword research and working with the news SEO team to ensure commercial events drive as much traffic as possible and the wider team is supported in relevant areas.
Requirements
* Excellent project management skills.
* A thorough understanding of Google, Google Discover and how SEO works.
* Experience managing SEO content projects from cradle to grave.
* An analytical and data-driven approach to surfacing content opportunities, trending topics, delivering actionable insights and identifying opportunities.
* An ability to build relationships across the business.
* Experience delivering strategic presentations to senior stakeholders.
* Experience using multiple industry-leading tools (GSC, Screaming Frog, ahrefs, SemRush etc).
* Numerate and fluent in aggregating and analysing core campaign performance metrics.
* Experience with affiliate marketing.
* Experience in editorial or newsroom environments (desirable).
* Adobe Analytics, Pi-data metrics and/or Lumar (desirable).
* Good understanding of technical SEO (desirable).
* Line management experience (desirable).
