Job overview
The post-holder will report to The Catering Manager and will deputise for the Catering Manager on all catering aspects of the food service to ensure that the delivery of a high quality and cost-effective catering service for patients is provided.
The post-holder will be responsible for coordinating, planning and overseeing tasks and operations within the catering team covering activities across East and West Sussex ensuring that services delivered are performance monitored, quality assured and compliant and that the internal operational staff are able to effectively deliver the required care through patient feeding.
The postholder will work with the Facilities Managers, Facilities Supervisors and Clinical Managers to ensure the delivery of a compliant catering service and manage the production processes ensuring that all control procedures are consistently followed together with ensuring stock is controlled and costs minimised.
The post-holder will ensure that all work is undertaken in accordance with Trust Standard Financial Instructions, and in compliance with all relevant Health and Safety requirements.
Deputise in the absence of The Catering Manager

Main duties of the job
1. Development of relationships with clinical managers and patients to ensure and promote Trust confidence with food service and the Catering department and to discuss dietary requirements submitted by patients to ensure the correct food is provided.
2. Deliver managerial professional control of food service, to ensure patients are offered a choice of nutritious meals and snacks, appropriate for their health needs and religious dietary requirements.
3. Deliver quality food services to patients and staff monitoring the provision of these services against agreed standards ensuring remedial action is taken to rectify shortcomings in service delivery.
4. Conduct and monitor weekly/monthly hygiene audit scores and ensure action is taken to rectify failing scores.
5. Engage with Ward Managers and other nursing colleagues to ensure services are appropriate to the needs of each ward/patient area.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Manage all people and non-people resources in a way that maximises the benefits for the Trust.
2. Source suppliers, obtain quotations and raise purchase orders for catering services in line with SPFT financial guidelines.
3. Report catering expense performance regularly to the Catering Manager.
4. Support the management of the catering budget set for non-pay expenditure, ensuring all identified cost improvement targets are met.
5. Contribute to the quarterly business reviews with contract providers.

* Level 3 Food Hygiene
Knowledge/Experience
* Understanding of performance and data analysis
* Experience of auditing and monitoring of services
* Experience of computer software (MS Word/Excel/ bespoke software)
* Knowledge of working in the NHS
