We are looking for a dedicated, reliable and proactive Heritage Surveyor to join our team. You will be exposed to a number of unique projects throughout the UK with opportunities to work at different offices for a variety of clients.
This role will offer a range of experiences in dealing with traditional and historic buildings, monuments and sites, ranging from initial surveys, through developing repair strategies, to administering contract works on site as part of a project team. This will require an interest in traditional forms of construction, an ability to solve problems and a willingness to develop skills in building pathology. You should be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
You will be required to drive to client sites, and so a full driving licence valid in the UK is necessary. This may be supported with the benefits of company cars or a car allowance, dependent upon the individual and site where you are employed.
The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):
* Carry out inspections and surveys of buildings, monuments and sites
* Carry out detailed and often forensic investigations relating to building defects and performance
* Prepare reports including observations recommendations, drawings and photographic records
* Prepare schedules of works and specifications for repairs
* Prepare schedule of planned preventive maintenance
* Provide wider support to clients, which may include contract administration, CDM duties and legal expert services
* Attend meetings with clients, professional teams and statutory authorities
* Undertake personal training and continuing professional development
* Ensure confidentiality in all matters relating to work or communication with the company and clients
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
* Have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. architecture, building surveying)
* Have achieved or be working towards membership of a professional institution (e.g. RICS, RIBA)
* Have achieved or be working towards conservation accreditation and IHBC membership
* Understand building construction
* Understand traditional materials and methods of construction
* Understand building performance, defect diagnosis and patterns of failure
* Understand issues of compliance and relevant legal frameworks
* Have a working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft 365
* Have a professional, organised and thorough approach to work that demonstrates attention to detail
* Have the ability to take initiative in identifying and undertaking work that needs to be carried out
* Possess an inquisitive approach to learning, work and developing skills
* Be comfortable communicating with clients
* Be comfortable working within a team or independently
* Have high standards of written and spoken English
