Opportunity for an Estimator to join a reputable and well-established medium-sized contractor in Bedfordshire. Our client has a successful track record in delivering high-quality construction projects across various sectors including commercial, education, industrial, and leisure, and has a strong reputation for excellence.
The Role – Estimator
Office based in Bedfordshire
Working hours: 8.30-5.30
The Construction Estimator will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase, working on both new build and refurbishment projects ranging in value from £1,000,000 to £8,000,000. Reporting directly to the Directors, the successful candidate will contribute to the overall success of the company by providing accurate and detailed cost estimates for prospective projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare detailed cost estimates for new build and refurbishment projects in commercial, education, industrial, and leisure sectors
* Manage pre-qualification, quality, and pre-bid submissions
* Collaborate with the bid team to develop competitive and compelling tender submissions
* Conduct thorough cost analysis, ensuring accuracy and completeness of estimates
* Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to build relationships and obtain competitive quotes, negotiating favorable terms
* Identify and assess potential risks associated with construction projects, proposing effective mitigation strategies
* Maintain organized and comprehensive documentation of all estimating activities
* Identify opportunities to add value throughout the project process
* Work closely with the Managing Estimator and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment with project objectives
* Support junior members of the estimating, surveying, and pre-construction team
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in construction management, quantity surveying, or a related field (not essential)
* In-depth knowledge of construction processes, materials, and industry best practices
* Experience of pricing projects – both single and two-stage tenders and negotiated opportunities
* Proficient in relevant estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present and explain estimates to internal and external stakeholders
* Proven track record of delivering work-winning competitive tenders
* Taking off experience required
