An opportunity to join a hardworking, committed specialist team of arboriculturists, leading on the management and maintenance of trees and woodlands across the County.
We are seeking an Assistant Forestry & Arboricultural officer to assist with the strategic and sustainable management of the County Council's tree and woodland assets across all land holdings including the highway network.
About the Role
1. To oversee the cyclic tree inspection of roadside and other trees, ascertain the ownership of trees on private land and provide technical information and documentation for the serving of notices to remedy defects.
2. To undertake specific inspections to gather information on the progression of Ash die-back and other tree diseases in Leicestershire.
3. To maintain and update computerised tree inventories and inspection records, issue work instructions to contractors where required, and carry out a range of other forestry and arboricultural related tasks.
4. Support the delivery of the County Council tree planting intiatives.
5. Provide advisory service for the County Council and appropriate outside bodies, LCC clients and the general public as required.
About You
To apply for this post, you must:
6. Have a minimum Level 3 Certificate in Forestry and Arboriculture or equivalent demonstrable work experience in Forestry and Arboriculture at a technical level.
7. Must be capable of preparing detailed written reports, specifications and financial estimates
8. Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
9. Must be able to sustain good working relationships with members of the county council, other Departments external clients and members of the public.
Knowledge of:
10. tree biology/pathology and modern arboricultural/forestry practice
11. British Standards and codes of practice relevant to forestry and arboriculture, relevant Health and Safety at Work regulations relevant to forestry and arboriculture.
12. legislation in relation to all forestry and arboricultural works, including the relevant regulations for working on highways.
