STARS is the name of our Charitable Fund at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. The charity supports the extraordinary work happening across the Trust. The Charity Director will be a dedicated representative of both STARS and Salisbury Foundation Trust and will demonstrate a commitment to transforming patient care through a business-minded and innovative approach towards driving the development of the STARS charity.
The Charity Director will be responsible and accountable for the strategic leadership and delivery of all functions of STARS’ income generation.
The responsibilities of this role encompass the oversight of all aspects of the charity's operations, with a focus on leading fundraising. A key focus will be driving donor-centric partnerships and providing exceptional supporter experiences while bolstering stakeholder relationships.
The successful applicant will need to be confident in operating independently, managing departmental functions, interpreting organisational policies, and demonstrating compliance with all legal frameworks, while ensuring that charitable business practices, operational functions, and cultural standards are maintained and enforced across the team and the hospital.

Strategy: Responsible for the strategic leadership and delivery of all functions of STARS’ income generation and operational activities, in line with the charity’s objectives.
Community leadership: Responsible for developing and supporting a sustainable charitable ecosystem around Salisbury Foundation Trust and beyond.
Leadership & Management: Provide inspiring and innovative leadership, nurturing a culture of ambition, support, and inclusion at STARS. Ensure alignment of the charity's vision, values, and behaviours while managing a high-performing team to secure substantial income.
Governance and Compliance: Ensure STARS is compliant with all regulatory and legal obligations, including GDPR and the Fundraising Regulator. Report to and advise the Charities Committee on income and expenditure, governance reviews, and risk mitigation.
Charitable Activities: Lead STARS fundraising efforts by prioritising donor-centric practices and fostering lasting donor partnerships. Develop a dynamic project and campaign pipeline focusing on key areas such as research, medical equipment, staff well-being, and patient care.
Financial & Risk Management: Oversee all STARS’ financial transactions, manage assets and investments, and ensure timely reporting to the Charities Committee.
External Relations and Communications: Manage corporate communications, public relations, and brand consistency. Increase brand awareness within the community and collaborate with external agencies to advance STARS goals.
Person specification
* Specialist subject matter knowledge gained through relevant postgraduate qualification or extensive experience in fundraising.
* Membership of the Institute of Fundraising.
* Evidence of senior management level continuing professional development.
* Demonstrable experience of strategic vision creation and delivery planning.
* Experience of developing sustainable income streams in a charitable organisation.
* Experience in managing external relations and communications.
* Knowledge of fundraising strategies and ability to diversify income sources.
* Excellent knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework within which charities operate.
* Degree in a relevant subject such as marketing or business management.
* Familiarity with the NHS and NHS Charity landscape would be beneficial.
