The Clinical Ward Manager will be responsible for providing clinical leadership to all ward-based staff and ensuring the MDT provides a consistent approach incorporating recovery model to patient care. They will also ensure day to day operational management of the ward is effective and efficient.
The ward manager will have overall management responsibility for the delivery of care within the ward, in accordance with Trust policies and procedures. To lead a team of nursing staff in the delivery of high-quality evidence-based practice, ensuring that regular supervision and appraisal take place. To manage administrative and operational resources in a cost-effective manner, evaluating the standard of service delivered. To co-ordinate multidisciplinary working, maintaining excellent communication and working relationships with all team members, and other services within the Trust, to ensure effective interface and continuity of care between disciplines and services.
The post holder will carry out nursing procedures to a standard that ensures safe and effective care, and complies with The Nursing and Midwifery Council's Code of Professional Conduct.
There is an expectation that the post holder will place the needs of service users at the center of care delivery. The Ward Manager will be a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in clinical areas providing assistance, advice and support to staff, patients, relatives, carers and visitors.
This is a patient-facing role.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered on the NMC register - Mental Health
* Relevant post registration health care and/or management qualifications
* First or higher degree in appropriate subject area NVQ assessor/Recovery training Non-Medical Prescriber
Experience
* Significant experience at Clinical Team Leader Band 6 or above
* Budget and resource management understanding
* Experience of providing management supervision and appraisal
* First line management and leadership experience
* Able to demonstrate experience at a senior clinical level including some staff management/supervision experience.
* Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
* Evidence of providing leadership in a Mental Health care environment including service development
* Experience with risk assessment and ongoing management
* Experience of working with other client groups and of using a variety of models and approaches to care
* Experience of managing non-clinical staff and other professionals
* Experience of staff performance management
* Experience of implementing significant changes in working practices
* Experience of project management

* Thorough understanding of care planning and risk management
* Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance
* Awareness of nursing agendas i.e. NHS plan and National Service Frameworks
* Awareness of safeguarding issues and responsibilities under relevant legislation
* Working knowledge of budget management
* Knowledge of performance management procedures
