Kirklees council has a strong commitment to continuing to provide excellent services to support its diverse community and places high value on the educational psychology team’s involvement in this. Kirklees embraces workforce development and new entrants into the profession and consequently, is keen to recruit two creative and dynamic Trainee EPs to join and enhance our large friendly and enthusiastic team. This opportunity is open to trainees entering the 2nd or 3rd year of their training in September 2025.
Our service has a broad and continually expanding remit within the local authority with a strong drive to promote inclusive practice and enhance the learning of all children and young people.
We have a central role across the local authority in relation to social emotional and mental health being a lead partner in the Mental Health Support Teams in schools with a specific focus on developing a whole school approach through a comprehensive learning and development offer which enables systemic working. This covers a wider range of topics which includes developing and embedding Emotion Coaching practice, the training and supervision of Emotional Literacy Support Assistants as well as provide training and support in relation to Therapeutic Story Writing amongst other things. In addition to this we provide a comprehensive offer to schools in relation to supporting children in care.

Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to do your job effectively if you did not use a car for all or most of the time. It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving licence and have a car available for work. All employed TEPs are eligible for an Essential Car User Allowance as part of their contract.
