Job overview
The post holder will be the first line of support for all pathology data quality issues. The individual will be expected to apply judgement and have a clear understanding of data quality within the NHS and experience of working with NHS information systems. The role demands significant initiative, flexibility, and IT skills. The primary responsibility of this role, as part of UH Sussex Pathology IT team, is to support, manage, and develop existing IT systems and electronic communications between pathology sites (RSCH, PRH, SRH & WOR) and its users in Primary care, community trusts, and other healthcare providers.
Main duties of the job
This role includes supporting the administration of Pathology Results reporting and Order-communication systems that underpin Pathology Service delivery at both Trusts and Primary Care. A key element of this is supporting and liaising with other trust departments that have invested in extensions to the original core pathology systems to support their clinical functions. The role includes performing and adapting data extraction from the laboratory IT systems to inform routine performance monitoring, clinical queries, business activity, and Freedom of Information requests. The role will involve close liaison with pathology IT and departmental staff, UH Sussex staff, GPs, and other healthcare providers. The role will represent UH Sussex in day-to-day interactions with all of its service users. Close working with Pathology IT colleagues in the wider UH Sussex Team is expected on a daily basis. The principle aims are reciprocal sharing of knowledge and skills, to provide continuity for the service, provide a supportive working environment, and to continue to promote and develop joined-up IT over the whole service.
