Job overview
1. To take responsibility for all aspects of day to day management and nursing care within own clinical speciality and support the Ophthalmology Department Lead in managing the department.
2. Setting standards of care in conjunction with other disciplines, co-ordinate services so that total patient needs are identified, ensuring appropriate individual patient care is given. This involves regular reviewing and updating of patient information and working protocols.
3. The post holder will provide expert clinical and managerial advice and support to staff and patients and also work as part of the team within the Outpatient Department.
4. The post holder will maintain a safe working environment, being aware of the necessity to comply with Health & Safety regulations and Environmental Health Act, and to attend Fire and Basic Life Support lectures and ensure all staff are up to date with Health and Safety procedures.
5. The post holder will maintain safe custody of drugs and medicines and ensure policies and procedures are adhered to.
6. The post holder will be instrumental and ensure all staff comply with, the protocols and policies of the Outpatient department and Trust Procedures.
7. The post holder will ensure care and safety of staff according to written standards and protocols.
8. The post holder will be involved with budget monitoring and ensuring cost effectiveness.

* Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development in a nursing field of practice.
Desirable criteria
* Leadership and development training.
* Counselling skills / course.
* Formal competencies in Ophthalmology Outpatients.
Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
* Experience working within an Ophthalmology setting.
* Experience of nursing ophthalmology patients in the ward/community environment.
Desirable criteria
* Experience in Ophthalmology Outpatients.
* Experience in nurse-led Angio / pre-assessment / day surgery / triage.
Knowledge
Desirable criteria
* Experience leading patient involvement projects or initiatives.
* Knowledge of leadership qualities and management skills and techniques.
