Vulnerable children in the UK need your help
Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK. Last year, we helped more than 687,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.
Why Action for Children?
Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.
A bit about the role
Hillcrest is a 5 bedded children's home which accommodates children and young people who need to be looked after, whilst also offering short breaks for children with additional needs on a bespoke basis. You will be part of a team, working to a rota to meet the needs of all the children in our care. The children need consistent, caring, empathetic staff who will support them to develop to their full potential. An understanding of trauma and attachment would be beneficial. Each child will have an individualised child's plan with set outcomes which you will work towards. Relating to children and young people who may have experienced trauma is essential.
As a Team Leader Residential, you'll be supporting staff to meet the needs of our young people between the ages of 8 and 18 to help them reach their full potential and achieve new outcomes. You'll create a stimulating and engaging environment whilst always ensuring safety.
You'll plan and support young people in taking part in activities based at the service as well as out in the community in order to develop their social and life skills. You'll also provide support with day-to-day activities, attend to any emotional, social or personal care, and the administration of medication will be included in your role.
As we operate 24 hours/365 days a year, there are various shift times available including day shift, waking nights, and sleep ins. Relevant training for this post will be provided within the organisation. You will line manage up to 5 staff members and be on the floor working to the rota 80% of the time whilst supporting staff, providing good quality supervision, paperwork, developing the service and attending meetings for the remaining 20%.
How you'll help to create brighter futures
* Running Hillcrest to a high standard as well as further developing how we support the children and young people in our care.
* Delivering services and leading by example to ensure that staff are supporting children and young people to achieve their full potential.
* Building and maintaining positive, professional working relationships by providing emotional and social support to children and young people who can display challenging emotional and social difficulties. Delivering bespoke activities which meet the needs of each child and young person.
* Ensuring a safe and positive work and homely environment is achieved through compliance with all policies and procedures.
* Supporting staff to work with the wider family and maintain relationships.

* Experience of planning, prioritising, and evaluating activities and own work effectively.
* The ability to work rotas providing 24/7 cover.
