About the role
This is an opportunity to be part of an extraordinary story. To play a key role in supporting and transforming the lives of children affected by early years trauma. At the Mulberry Bush, we have 5 houses on-site that provide residential care and education for up to 30 children. Working alongside the House Manager, you'll make sure our supportive environment continues to nurture healthy lives and relationships for the children you will be looking after.
Although this is not a registered manager role we are seeking someone with experience of team leadership in children's residential care.
Responsibilities
* Support the House Manager to ensure a high and consistent standard of care and therapeutic treatment of up to six children.
* Support the House Manager to ensure the smooth running of the day-to-day routines of a 52-week house.
* Work with the House Manager and the Group Living management team to develop house staff to ensure outstanding quality assurance and personal development.
* Coordinate on and off-site children's activities with a focus on developing the children's life and educational skills.
* Play the vital role of participant observer, ensuring the maintenance of consistent therapeutic practice, whilst working with the children adjacent to the team.
* Be an active, engaging representative of the house to the wider community.
* Deputise for the House Manager as required.
* Participate in the on-call rota duties.
* Participate in the sleep-in rota when required. Sleep-ins take place from 10pm-8am. Any sleep-ins are paid inline with the sleep in allowance. These hours are separate from your 40 hours.
* Shifts include 40 hours a week over 7-day period, 52 weeks a year.

About you
Not only are you passionate about creating warm and welcoming environments, you'll also have experience in a senior role within a childcare setting and have worked directly with children with challenging behaviours.
Essential Qualifications
* Experience in team leadership within a childcare setting.
* Experience in containing yourself and others in challenging situations.
* A background in care and treatment planning.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication and report-writing skills.
* The ability to lead and manage a team, and be capable of adapting to the needs of the children or organisation.
* An understanding of, and commitment to, safeguarding principles.
* Knowledge of therapeutic work theory, including an understanding of the roots of challenging behaviours.
* A Level 3 diploma in Health & Social Care - Children & Young People (or equivalent).
* A valid and full UK driving licence.
Non-essential but desirable:
* Experience gained in a therapeutic setting.
* A Foundation degree in Therapeutic Work with children and young people.
* Previous use of a crisis intervention system such as Team Teach.
* You'll have a sense of humour and are capable of assisting staff from a range of backgrounds to develop resilience and reach their potential.
* Worked with education, health and care plan processes.
